About Your Instructor

In June 1996, to promote the best in diving safety practices among the scuba divers in the University community, the Dive Safety Office was established to provide training and administrative support to create the FIU Scuba Program. Bob Weisman was hired as administrator of the new office and one of his first duties was to write a dive safety manual to organize all training and accreditation of FIU divers to become scientific divers.

Bob is dedicated to educating people about the marine environment and, more precisely, how the diver's physiology changes and has to adapt to the pressure in that environment. Weisman's background has had him jumping from helicopters rescuing victims at sea, teaching at two university programs, Penn State and the University of Florida, and acting as the Dive Safety Officer at EPCOT's Living Seas Aquarium.

Bob received FIU's Employee of the Year award in 2001. His team of instructors attained their qualifications through the FIU program which is sanctioned through NAUI.
